TxMTI History

Twenty years ago, Mary Lou Tunnicliffe started sister company Medical Transcription Service (MTS) of Texas out of her kitchen office.  Mary Lou was working as a contract medical transcriptionist at a hospital in Austin, Texas. With a family to raise, she wanted more control over her schedule along with work-at-home flexibility. So she started her own transcription business, MTS of Texas, and began hiring transcriptionists. Word of mouth caused business to flourish.

MTS of Texas has employed more than 130 contract transcriptionists from around the country. In 2000, MTS of Texas launched an on-site training program. Beginning January 2008, the program – now known as Texas Medical Transcription Institute (TxMTI) – conveniently offers the training program online.
